I can't stand where this road takes me,
I can't stand where this road goes.
Though it loses a bit with a bit of beer
Though it loses its reluctance and pain and fear,
Though it changes every day with my needs
I can't stand where this road leads.
my verbosity is only exceeded by my pomposity

Things From the New Last Long While
Garcon!
No vulgar language, please, Sir
Don't worry, we won't be staying the night
Would you like the soup or the salad?
Just sock it to me!
You can't bring that thing in here!
Fine, fine, I'll put my shoes back on.
April, 1975
Well there's a whole lotta mud
Way down in my soul
There's a whole lotta mud
In this deep, deep hole
When you dig you a hole
And you fill it up with blood
There'll be a hole with a whole lotta mud
Wartime
Towards one frantic energy
Fighting through another
The crowd pushed their way to the doors of the train station.
There had been distant gunfire all day,
Bombs all night,
The morning papers hadn't arived,
The radio shouted out, "Death! Death!"
The Interrogation
Further thoughts brought only paralysis
To the man in the chair.
They'd come at night with upraised arms,
He'd been beaten,
Then they'd taken him there.
He blanched before their questions,
He shrank before their blows,
And they got him to sign the confession,
Three minutes before they broke his nose.
The Occupation
For the buildings are on fire,
The money won't buy you food.
The man on TV is a liar,
All the soldiers share a desperate mood.
James' Saturday Afternoon
A coffee cup so full of wine
Which will flow in my belly.
Oh, that would be fine!
While I rest upon the couch supine.
East Coast Insecurity
Rhode Island to your Massachusetts,
Connecticut to your New York,
New Jersey to your Pennsylvania,
Delaware to your Maryland!
Life is nothing more than the burning tip of a cigarette. And we never think the pack is going to run out.
Watching TV
Endless waves crashed on the sandy beach.
I sat quietly with my face in the breeze.
I looked on down at the ends of my feet,
And you were there, you were asleep.
We Americans, we're moths on a light fixture. We complain about our positions on its surface, always pushing and shoving for a better one, while the rest of the world flits about in the air discussing the quality of the light.

Waiting For the Phone to Ring
He was on top of a high spire of rock. A little music wafted out of the speakers on the old computer desk that perched precariously on the edge. He rocked back and forth while typing, sitting on a ratty folding chair that was positioned even more precariously in front of the desk. He was writing. All around was nothing but darkness, blackness piled upon more blackness. To all sides the empty air extended forever. He was in the world's largest space, larger than anything built by man or God. The rocking of his chair dislodged a small stone which went skittering down the sheer side of the incomprehensibly small spire, making tiny noises until it had gone beyond the range of the ear.

Blugh, this couch
I'm not comfortable! I'm not comfortable! I'm not comfortable! I'm upset! I'm not happy! I'm uncomfortable!
Explanation
Why is the address of this blog "nusod.blogspot.com"?
Well I was packing up for an event at my old job. You have to pack for events before they happen so that people can just grab the shit and go when it is go time. Usually a few days in advance. You work off a packing list, which is handwritten on a standard form. At the top is a space for the name of the event and its date and time. When you've packed some stuff you label it, of course. This particular event was something called the "NUSOM Reception" or some other such foolishness. Not NUSOD. But I read it as Nusod. Labeled everything "Nusod". I thought it was kind of funny later on. I was still chuckling about it a week or so later, "Haha, Nusod, har har." That's when I started this blog. Good story, eh?

Things From the Last Long While
Bye-Bye
A man was involved in a terrible crash in which several of those he held most dear were killed. He was not expressly at fault, but had been at the wheel at the fatal moment. This fact, once lead down the strange avenues and alleyways of a human mind which has been twisted by tragedy, lead him to lay all blame for the accident on his own shoulders. The ways of human beings at their most emotional can be bizarre, and the mechanics through which we assign blame are an extreme example.
This man turned his back on all the things that had previously made up the component parts of his now-broken life. He walked away from the wreckage. Rather than seeking to clear away the rubble and build anew, the man elected to brush the ashes off his boots and simply walk away.
He quit his job. He bought a new car, a pile of junk that bore no resemblance to his previous well-made vehicle, the one he'd taken on so many sunlit rambles across the neighboring towns and fields. He bade farewell to the traffic lights that winked at him every day, to the bank where he'd built up savings as a bulwark against an uncertain future, and the deli counter where he'd ordered sliced bologna to be later placed on bread as sandwiches for his little son, no crusts.
Late at night he'd pace the hallways in dark empty silence, reliving every second of the accident. After three weeks he moved out to the coast to a rented house on the edge of the ocean.
Well, This Sucks
There is a bar,
There is a guy,
Who is my friend,
It is his birthday,
And several friends,
Are in the bar,
But I,
I have no money.
Good Times and Disbelief
When there is hardship, belief in religion, superstition, or even uncategorized Forces Beyond comes easier to the minds of human beings. In this (we believe) impious era, we think that in previous times there was always a much greater religiosity among people in general. Though this is to some degree true, it is only because those who exist in our present live lives of greater comfort and less hardship. Never in previous times was it in any way 'easier' to believe, it was only easier to accept.
Proper language excuses improper behavior more often than proper behavior excuses improper language.
Geometry
A circle was friends with a square. The circle lived on the town square and the square lived in a big house next to a cul-de-sac. The circle woke up every morning and had a piece of toast for breakfast. The square preferred cocoa puffs. The square also ate a bagel once in a while. After breakfast the circle would get into his ancient, boxy car and drive off to his job welding angular metal plates together. The square was quite wealthy and did not have to drive anywhere or do much of anything. He spent most of his days laying in an innertube, floating in his very round pool, enjoying the rays of the circular sun. The square especially liked pizza -- pepperoni pizza. He was a big basketball fan as well. The circle was a chess player. One night the two friends were eating smores around a bonfire together arguing over which ingredient in the smores was the best. The square preferred the marshmallow while the circle was much more partial to the graham cracker.
My Opinion of You
You're never going to resolve anything. You're just filling up the air with more air going,
"Garble-barble-gooble-gabble!!!"
You've got custard on your face and you're just calling it your opinions.
Squibble-Squabble, Bibble-Babble
Squibble-squabble.
Bibble-babble.
I put exactly three teaspoons of sugar in my coffee.
I think that I am going crazy because I mistook my father for the orange juice or the orange juice for my father.
I woke up and went outside this morning.
There were exactly three leaves on the screened in porch.
I think that I am going completely insane because I keep mistaking day for night and night for day.
So squibble-squabble, bibble babble!
Linger on a little while, sing us exactly three songs and tell a joke.
Let's try our best to not mistake the things we have for the things we want.
Let's try our best to just sit down.
Conversation Between a Director and a Prima Donna Actor
Stop! It's not an action scene!
There is no bullet in your head!
The post-apocalyptic crackheads never left you for dead!
I'm a serious man with acting skills!
My face speaks lines and pays the bills.
Your hat and jowls will never stop me.
I'm a porcupine, I'll give you chills!
Do what I say, take your check!
Perform this awful, awful drek.
Feel the script, be a potato
Peel yourself, forget tomatoes!
Goddamnit, I'm the best!
Where is my trailer?
I need a rest
You are a failure as a director!
Give me what I want!
On the Couch
Watch the screen,
I'll drink a beer.
The time for sleep
Draws ever near.
It's impossible to stop needing things, it's impossible to ever truly stop wanting anything, you're never going to be alright, and there is no way out. None.

Fire on the Mountain
Physical things burn
As do the metaphorical
People burn often in tales allegorical
Lovers burn for each other
Soldiers burn one another
Sleepy smokers burn the covers and so give up their lives
The desperate burn property for the insurance
The insecure burningly want reassurance
Idealists burn out when they lose their convictions
Speed freaks burn out when they succumb to addiction
Writers burn out when they produce too much fiction
Fulfillment
Imagine you're sitting under a perfect cloudless sky, azure blue
In a soft green meadow and the world is centered on you
The sunshine is glorious, the weather so nice
There is no boss, there are no bills, no unwanted advice
No distractions will arise to interrupt your pleasure
This moment is perfect, all you wanted, an absolute treasure
A soft wind whispers through the beautiful trees
Now won't you stop and buy our product
--Please???
Winter Man
The winter wind reminds me
Of a bitter ancient man
Who sits inside an armchair
Waving about his hands and
Shouting of all the evil he sees
Gathering in distant lands
